The question was:

My answer was :

As far as I remember, calloc/malloc/realloc are all limited to approx 16meg.

If you're at V4R4+ you could try the teraspace support (parm TERASPACE on
the CRTCMOD cmd) which bumps up the limit when using these functions, to
huge values.
