Hi Jeff,
I've had only the best experiences with Lexmark Optra S and T series,
I installed them at several of my customers' sites and can only recommend
them for LAN printing in conjunction with AS/400 systems.
YES, I still name it AS/400 and will continue to do so ... :-)
It's the software to manage printers overe a LAN that makes the difference,
and of course, the quality of drivers on different platforms.
OKAY, HP is the marketleader, JetAdmin is a nice tool , but when it comes
to IPDS or to other more IBM related things, Lexmark is a bit better, because
you don't need to use third party products to get there.
And the new Lexmark lasers are really robust, although the cartridges are not
the cheapest ...
One of my customers is just now exchanging 12x 6 year old Optra R's with
new Optra T 612 N because they are beginning to make noise, they still work
like they should ...
BTW, the "N" models (network attached) dont need anything else than TCP/IP
installed on your AS/400, Lexmark and HP both have models with Ethernet cards
already installed.

Hope this helps.

Regards from germany, Philipp Rusch
