Michael,

This is a problem we all face.  Basically all fields -must- be input as
alpha fields and you must convert the numeric fields based upon your
standards (leading minus or trailing, comma separators for thousands or
pennies, decimal point, etc.)

There has been a lengthy discussion this month on the rpg400-l list at
midrange.com about this very topic.
