I guess "beauty (in your case, a great deal) is in the eye of the beholder". Personally, I could not justify dropping 9 grand so I could run a $250 machine that is warranteed for 60 days. Especially when there's at least three AS/400 timeshare companies out there renting space for around $25 per month. Yes, a 13.8 RSP, IMO, would be more than enough horsepower for a "personal" AS/400, unless you were crunching some huge database. And, yes, I think there is a lower tier than P05. P01, P02??? Anybody? It may well be a lot cheaper than $9000 to buy one of those new with OS/400, RPG, ADTS. Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 -------------------------- Original Message -------------------------- Looks like a __great__ deal to me. What am I missing? The software doesn't get any cheaper than the P05 prices you listed, does it? I know the hardware prices are dropping, but $249 is lower than any 64-bit Risc processor I've seen recently. I am tempted... Very tempted. Would a 13.8 Telative System Performance be good enough for an individual "personal computer" with a real operating system? If a company wanted to create an intranet web server without mucking up the production system, wouldn't this be a good starter system? Seems like IBM would like us all to agree that a Model 400 is only good for filling up the nearest landfill. I can think of lots of ways to use one. =========================================================== Charly Jones -- IBM Certified Specialist - AS/400 Administrator Geezer in Gig Harbor >From: "Neil Palmer" <neilp@dpslink.com> >Reply-To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com >To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com >Subject: Re: IBM AS400 Model 2130 Server at Egghead.com >Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2000 18:43:46 -0500 > >I believe this is the US$ software pricing for a 9402-400-2130 (P05). >Doesn't look like such a great deal now does it ! :-) > > > 5733-SM1 IBM SW Subscription 1 Yr Prepay > 2210 Basic OTC P05 1 600.00 > ========= > 5733-SM1 OTC 600.00 > > 5769-VP1 VALUPAK FOR V4 1 > 0343 Package (PT1) P05 1 3,500.00 > 9001 Basic Asset Registration 1 N/C > 9500 ValuPak Registration 1 N/C > ========= > 5769-VP1 OTC 3,500.00 > > 5769-SS1 Operating System 1 > 0270 P05 Basic OTC OS/400 1 2,550.00 > 0359 ZERO PRICED FLATFEE PSF/400 IPM 1 N/C > 9001 Basic Asset Registration 1 N/C > 9500 ValuPak Registration 1 N/C > ========= > 5769-SS1 OTC 2,550.00 > > 5769-QU1 Query 1 > 0348 Basic OTC P05 Zero Priced 1 N/C > 9001 Asset Registration 1 N/C > 9500 ValuPak Registration 1 N/C > > 5769-ST1 DB2 Query Manager and SQL Dev K 1 > 0353 Basic OTC P05 Zero Priced 1 N/C > 9001 Asset Registration 1 N/C > 9500 ValuPak Registration 1 N/C > > 5769-XW1 Client Access Windows Family 1 > 0358 Per User CA WINDOWS (U5769-VP1 10 N/C > 9001 Asset Registration 1 N/C > 9500 ValuPak Registration 1 N/C > > 5769-PT1 Performance Tools/400 V4 1 > 1100 P05 Zero Priced Billing Feat - 1 N/C > 1105 P05 Zero Priced Billing Feat - 1 N/C > 9001 Basic Asset Registration 1 N/C > 9500 ValuPak Registration 1 N/C > > 5769-PW1 ADTS 1 > 0895 P05 Basic OTC ADTS 1 1,200.00 > 9001 Basic Asset Registration 1 N/C > ========= > 5769-PW1 OTC 1,200.00 > > 5769-RG1 ILE RPG for AS/400 1 > 0985 P05 Basic OTC ILE RPG 1 1,200.00 > 9001 Basic Asset Registration 1 N/C > ========= > 5769-RG1 OTC 1,200.00 > > > ========= > Total Software OTC 9,050.00 > > ========= > Grand Total Price 9,050.00 > > > >*********************** SOFTWARE SUBSCRIPTION PRICES >*********************** > > Monthly Charge 51.00 > 1 Year Charge 600.00 > 2 Year Charge 1,168.00 > 3 Year Charge 1,706.00 > 4 Year Charge 2,215.00 > 5 Year Charge 2,697.00 > > > > > >Dave Mahadevan <mahadevan@fuse.net> >Sent by: owner-midrange-l@midrange.com >2000/11/28 16:19 >Please respond to MIDRANGE-L > > > To: midrangel <MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com> > cc: > Subject: IBM AS400 Model 2130 Server at Egghead.com > > >Folks: > >There are 32 units of IBM AS400 Model 2130 Server on clearance sale at >Egghead for $250 + $185 shipping.
