Steve,

Sounds to me like a security problem. Is this really your AS/400 or
are you hacking in somewhere! <vbg>

Previous posts suggest trying another server to check your modem and
line and to try to use a lower baud rate (all good ideas). Add to that:
If using the IBM 7852-400 ECS modem, flip switch 12 to ASYNC. If using
other IBM ECS modems, replace them with something usable like a USR
Courier V.Everything (My personal favorite).

I would check here: When you are deep into the config of the PPP on
the Authentication tab make sure you have the Require remote sstem
identification box checked, and select CHAP only. Then select the
authentication list to use and select Open. Assure that your userid and
password have been entered there and that CHAP only is selected. If
there is no list there then a) You must select the NEW button to create
one, and you also must have the QRETSCRSEC System value set to '1' to
allow the list to be saved.

Hope this helps, and absorb a few rays of the Sun for those of us in
the gloomy Midwest today!

  - Larry
