Nothing is impossible. However the members of the hacking base who are SNA
aware is more limited.

But, if he needs to replicate Domino information from the 400 in the DMZ
(DeMilitarized Zone) to the production Domino machine then SNA only is not
an option.

We will have in our DMZ a sacrificial 400 running Domino.

<<I figure this list would recommend this idea -- my question is, what
sorts
of arguments would you use to convince an AS/400-agnostic that this would
be a good choice? Also, would anyone have any general recommendations for
what size/features would be appropriate?>>

We're doing something like what you're proposing. We have a 170 outside
our main firewall for webserving, and it's connected to our production box
(which is behind the main firewall) via SNA (my AS/400 gurus say you can't
hack an SNA connection, is this true?). With this, we do all sorts of neat
stuff with CGI programs that live on the 170 and access data on the
production box (there are probably a million security holes here, and feel
free to let me know what they are so I can bring them to the gurus).

My main recommendations why you should use the 400 (although I'd personally
use the native HTTP server over Domino):
1. It never crashes.
2. It never crashes.
3. It never crashes.

Did I mention that it never crashes?
