They were yanking your chain. Do not qualify your file names. This defies
library lists. Much as we've filled up the little pond next to our
building with programmers who hard coded libraries (other than QTEMP) in
their source, you too can do without hard coding libraries. Only on very
rare occasions do we run into problems, and then it was just bad
maintenance. For example, if BPCS would do away with the data area called
INLIBL and used the BPCSJOBD job description then you wouldn't have two
area to maintain the library list.

We use SQLRPGLE programs all the time, against multiple databases (about
37), from a single program library.

I'm not very knowledgeable about SQLRPG and I'm curious--my cohorts who use
it say that SQLRPG programs must be recompiled over the exact datafiles
they
will be run against.

Can someone explain to me why, and whether there is a way to compile an
SQLRPG program so that it can safely use unqualified file names? I'd like
to
be able to change the library list to run these programs over a different
(e.g. Test) data library!

We have not used SQLRPGLE.

Apologies if this is an old topic, and thanks in advance for any
insights....
