MICR printing

Hello all!

Here is my situation:  I am trying to print to an HP8100 using IO Corp 5435
AFP/IPDS
box over TCP/IP.  I am trying to print MICR to this printer and am getting
the following
message from the AS400:

Message . . . . :   MICR printing is not supported or not available on
device
  AC11FPOLDX.
Cause . . . . . :   An error was found while processing file SCHECK#SCS
number
  0010 in job 533499/S#SHARPE/QPADEV000G. Font character set C0R0AE13 from
  library QFNTMICR2 requires the font be printed using a MICR printer.
Device
  AC11FPOLDX is not a MICR printer or has the MICR function disabled. Page
  000001 was being processed when the error occurred. Processing of the
print
  request ended.

What am I missing?  I am using the MICR font on the AS400 in my DDS file.
Do I need to
purchase something (Font chip) for the HP8100 (I thought by using the fonts
on the AS400
it would download to the printer)?
