Hi Domenico

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of doing something similar to this except
embedded in an RPGLE progam. I could still trap for errors. The main problem is
that I'm not too sure how to syntax the statement where I would insert the
fields into the newly-created pf.

Not only do I need to trim and convert (ie. digits(FLDn)) the fields but I need
to concatenate them into one long field and write the record into the
newly-created file. I have no idea how to do this in one SQL statement.

Regards
John.

Hi, John. Try to write a CLP that executes:
** step 1: a procedure (RUNSQLSTM) to insert data into your file
** trap step 2: SQL error (MONSMG SQLxxxx) , run an SQL that issues a CREATE
TABLE as needed
** goto step 1, in order to populate the table.

Sincerely

Oggetto: SQL Statement to create a comma-delimited file

Hi all,

I have a requirement whereby I need to insert x number fields into a table
on-the-fly. Now the table might already exist (if it was already created
before,
using a previous SQL statement). If the table does not exist, it needs to be
created and then populated with certain fields. The fields need to be all
character (ie. packed converted to char) and comma-delimited.

I was wondering if there was a way where I could execute this in one SQL
statement and, if not, as few SQL statements as possible.

Regards
John.
