Chuck,

We wrote our own ad-hoc CL program to ping remote systems on a time
interval and then alert the AS/400 system folks if a system failed n ping
attempts after nn minutes. The program would send a simple SMTP e-mail to a
internet address using the AS/400 SNDDST (send distribution) command upon
ping failure. This e-mail address would then link to a distribution list on
our mail server. Works great.

Subject: Anyone written CL based "ping" checks ?

Hi Folks,

Just wondering if anyone had written any CL based "ping" checks that
they would want to share ? OR any good ideas on how to do this ?

I started to do this but of course instantly ran up against the fact
that this information is written to the "job log" and haven't started
digging into how to get at that with the lack of an output parameter on
the PING command...

Thanks !

Chuck
