As of V4R4, you can use SQL to do this:
select opt, maxdate from (select "option", max("date") from file group by
"option")
as temp (opt, maxdate)
group by opt, maxdate
Of course the words OPTION, DATE are SQL reserved, so you have to enclose
them

We have a simple file holding three fields:

Option (10A), User (10A), Date (10L)

Eg:

Option User Date
A Joe 2000-10-01
A Pete 2000-09-30
A Joe 2000-09-20
B Brian 2000-09-29
C Judy 2000-09-30
C Liz 2000-01-07
C Joe 1999-12-22

I want to write a query that will show me the last time an option was used,
no matter who by, resulting in:

A 2000-10-01
B 2000-09-29
C 2000-09-30
