Art, Chris Bipes posted the following information on midrange-l in response to a similar question about MS Access. I saved the post since I had a potential requirement to do the same thing. I didn't end up using this technique since my requirement did not materialize. From the research I did at the time, you would need to research and configure Distributed Relational Database Architecture (DRDA) on both servers. The impact to security would need to be considered since you would be opening up the databases to TCP/IP access. Documentation on both the IBM and Microsoft sides is light. IBM's documentation deals with connecting to other IBM databases with just a few references to non-IBM databases. I didn't find much on the subject from Microsoft. I expect it would take some trial and error to setup the connection between the databases. If you use this technique, I would be interested in hearing the details. Regards, Stan McPartland From Chris' post: "Using the interactive SQL product you can connect to any defined SQL data base including Access. The machine you are connecting to must be running DRDA via TCP/IP. The command to add a relation data base is: QSYS/ADDRDBDIRE RDB(xxxxxx) RMTLOCNAME('xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx' *IP) PORT(*DRDA) Then in the SQL use the CONNECT and prompt it." -----Original Message----- From: Art Tostaine, Jr. [mailto:art@link400.com] Sent: Tuesday, October 10, 2000 8:09 AM To: midrange-l@midrange.com Subject: Connect to Microsoft SQL Server I have a need to insert data into an imaging application that is running Microsoft SQL Server. I have searched the archives and deja.com and found messages that say I need IBM's datajoiner. The cost is $14,999. Is there any other way? Both systems will be local to each other and on a TCP/IP network. Art Tostaine, Jr. CCA, Inc.
