For a customer we have launched approx. 15 mod170-2290 with an INS card
running WinNT 4.0 Terminal Server. The AS/400 is running native Domino as
well. As of V4R4 the only way to backup the INS storage using a native tape
drive on the AS/400 is to format the tape in "NT"-format which is not
compatible with the native *SAVRST format so we decided to backup the INS
storage with a streamertape attached to the INS Console pc. The concept
with INS cards is EXTREMELY stable, we reboot the AS/400's twice a year
depending on a (probably) Domino problem which consumes disk storage.
In V4R5 the ability to backup the INS using the QNTC file system and
Netserver is announced but we have not tested it yet. May be some
performace issues there.
As others have suggested, the price/performance will be much better using
an external Netfinity server connected to the 8xx AS/400 using HSL.

>Running a 720 v4.4. Is there any way of backing up an NT server to our
3570 drive without having to buy BRMS ? This will just be used as a
temporary solution. >Currently there is no relationship between the 400 and
NT servers, other than they are all on the ethernet LAN.

>We are also considering putting NT on the 400, using an INS card - any
gothchas here? How well did this work?

Any ideas/suggestions gratefully received.
TIA
Charlotte
