Since we went to V4R5, we also have had some similar IP printing issues. I found that the external jet direct 'idle-timeout' setting was set too low. Try telneting into the jet direct from the AS/400 system where you have the device or out queue defined. Enter '/' to view the settings. Rochester recommended to me to set the idle-timeout to 3600 seconds. We did and our problems cleared up. To change the setting type 'idle-timeout: 3600'. Enter '/' to review the settings and to save type 'quit' to save and exit. If you don't type 'quit' the changes won't be saved.
