The part about the thunderstorm and power outage is true, can't say that I
know for sure that everyone was told to go home. Having worked for IBM for
30+ years and Rochester for 21+ years, I would seriously doubt it. Some
departments, some individuals - yes, but the whole site - get real!
As an aside, our facility is right outside IBM's back door - we had a power
glitch from Lightning at the same time, but our UPS's kept us going
smoothly. IBM on the other hand has it's own power substation - they don't
make a UPS big enough to handle that kind of load. They do have select
systems protected by UPS however.
