  • Subject: SNDPTFORD phone numbers

Hi All,

In attempting to send a PTF order via the ECS line, it became apparent that
the model 150 at V4R3 was using the wrong phone number. Then began a search
for where to change the phone number. Changing the phone number in the
controller description (QESCTL) didn't make any difference - it reverted to
the wrong number.

After a struggle to remember the name of the command that lets you change
the contact info, I found it (WRKCNTINF) buried in the text of the SNDPTFORD
command that explains how to request different media. None of the phone
numbers in there matched the incorrect phone number being used.

After wasting some time in what appeared to be the logical place (WRKCNTINF
option 6, service providers) I started searching the Online Info Center. A
search for "SNDPTFORD phone number" turned up exactly one manual, "AS/400
940x RISC-to-RISC Road Map" (the link is
http://www.as400.ibm.com/tstudio/tech_ref/rrmap/files/rrmapape.htm for
anyone interested). Not very promising. But amazingly enough, it had the
answer! Four phone numbers are stored in data area QESTELE in QUSRSYS, and
they provide a program, QESPHONE, which simply does a ?CHGDTAARA with
parameters filled in.

Besides the obvious question of "Why are these phone numbers so well
hidden?" and "Why aren't they in the service provider information?", I got
to wondering how you are supposed to store the phone numbers for other
service providers, should you attempt to add them in the WRKCNTINF option 6.
Does anyone have a clue?

Regards,
