Since DisplayWrite uses RFT-DCA files you can download the additional word
converters from Microsoft. You'll find the Office 97 version at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/appa/appa.htm#CHappaH212
<http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/appa/appa.htm#CHappaH212> and the
Office 2000 version at
http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#convpack
<http://www.microsoft.com/office/ork/2000/appndx/toolbox.htm#convpack> .
I've used the the 97 version, but not the 2000 version to convert
OfficeVision documents to Word.

I've been asked to convert DisplayWrite36 files (on an AS400) to MS-Word. I
don't have access to the machine yet. Is it just text? Can I copy to Word as
a .rtf?

A few years ago, we wrote a tool internally that converted Text
Management/38 into .rtf. I don't know what DisplayWrite/36 looks like, but
I suspect that my utility might be able to be converted.

I've seen this error several times, so I'd like to set the record straight:

.RTF = Rich Text Format
.RFT = Revisable Format Text (as opposed to .FFT = Final Format Text)

The latter is IBM's "Displaywrite" format. The former is a popular PC
document format. This is important, since both are valid and you need the
proper converter / filter on the PC.
