Synapse NetWolf will download data from the AS/400 to a PC over TCP/IP with
it's SQL based file transfer. Multiple output file types are supported.
The dBase (.dbf) is directly readable by Excel and includes column
headings, sizes, and types pulled from the DDS specs on the AS400 so you
don't have to do any manipulation in Excel to format and/or label the data.

The key is that the user can click to do the download and then open the
result file in Excel (.dbf) and get work done without any further data
modification and definitions. .CSV files fail in this regard and put the
process back into the domain of the (heaven forbid) programmer.

The file transfer will operate in a batch mode so you could automate the
downloading and distribution of 1000 files.

It is also callable from C++ or VB where it uses a messaging system to
monitor the success or failure of a file transfer and subsequent processing.

SNA is supported in their WinAPPC version.

Ordinary folk can use this software.

A free full running demo is at http://www.synapse.com.

(Claimer: I sell, support, use, and recommend Synapse products).

Regards,

Jerry
