That question seems moot. Non-unique keys are not a horrid thing but a
lot of shops insist on some modifying field (like a sequence number) to
make it possible to make a record identifiable and unique. The RRN of a
record does provide some uniqueness for it, so you can Setll on a
non-unique field and then loop through records on a DOW loop that does a
READE. The INFDS will show you a record's RRN so you can update a
particular record even if the key is non-unique.

My question is for any type of program......

accessing the file by a chain......... the file is keyed but not unique

am I correct in assuming that the results would be unpredictable..... you
would not always get the first added record by that key.......???
