Entire System save question

We just did an upgrade from a 510 to a 720 and did a triple backup
before we started.  We use the Save Entire System option from the Save
menu all three times.

The first save took 4 hours and 45 minutes.
The Second took 3 hours 30 minutes.
The Third took 3 hours 40 minutes.

I could understand the 10 minute difference before 2 and 3 but does
anyone have any idea why the first was 1:15 longer than the others ? 
Could it be that the second two did not update the save history ? There
was one library with a lot of objects that had recently been created and
never had a backup done of that library. Could this add some additional
overhead to a save ?
