P
Hello James?,

I have been attempting the same thing without success. The documentation for
the
Server Support APIs says OS/2 is supported (even at VRM450) but Informational
APAR
II11122 specifically says it isn't (permanent restriction). I have also been
told by
various (non-IBM) people that ONLY Windoze is supported. That means no OS/2
and no
Linux.

I only have a VRM440 system available to test with so I can't verify if it
works with
earlier releases but since you say it does then it suggests that in supporting
later
versions of Windoze, Rochester have broken something. Since I doubt they even
bother
to test OS/2 (and in light of II111222) they probably don't know and don't
care. (Too
busy stuffing themselves into Jeeps!).

I have opened a problem report here in Australia. If you haven't already
complained
to IBM support and opened a problem report then I suggest you do so. I would
also
request that anyone else who wants OS/2 and Linux support for NetServer also
complain
to IBM support. If the PMR is returned with the "Working as designed" cop out.
Then
request and complete a Design Change Request (DCR) form and get this fixed.

Interestingly, I know OS/2 can find NetServer because the 'net view \\qgryphon'
causes
the AS/400 to whir in to life (I can hear the drives working) every time it is
issued.
NetServer is deliberately rejecting the request.

NetServer is not a Windoze specific thing. It uses the Server Message Block
protocol
(developed jointly by IBM and Mickeysoft -- I think). Mickeysoft call their
implementation Network Neighbourhood, OS/2 calls it Peer Networking, Linux
calls it
Samba. It is a cross-platform protocol and it should be supported properly by
Rochester. Since all three platforms can co-exist in the same network and
share data
(Windoze and Linux as clients of OS/2, OS/2 and Linux as clients of Windows,
OS/2 and
Windoze as clients of Linux), NetServer should also participate in a more
friendly
fashion.

Now to trace the SMB flow and see exactly what Netserver is bitching about.
Maybe I
can tweak the heuristic settings to make it think I'm an NT ...

Regards,
Simon Coulter.
