"finger" is a TCP/IP service.  You should be able to type  finger
person@his.domain.com  and get a useful reply.  Unfortunately not every
ISP enables the finger service nowadays.

We store email addresses for customers and sales reps in the corresponding
master file on the AS/400.  Is there a way to validate/check/edit the
email
address entered (either interactively or in a batch process) to ensure
that
it is a valid email address?
