common validation list api's. 
I have a project that I believe this would be the answer to.

Loyd,

Have you considered using validation lists? They allow you to store
usernames and their corresponding passwords using OS/400-security without
giving userprofile access to your system. If you're interested I can email
you a sample program using the most common validation list api's.
