  • Subject: Help CA/400 Twinax file timeouts, Anyone solved this already?

Midrange List,

I've checked the archives and the IBM site but before I go to support
line I thought I would quickly see if anyone on the list already has
the solution.

We have a lot of Gateway PCs from 133 MHz to 650 MHz connected to an
AS/400 model 620 via a Perle 454, frame relay and Perle/Affinity Sys
PCI 5250 cards. CA/400 is V3R2M0 with latest SP. The PCs are running
Win98 and Win98SE.

Until the last system, the fastest at 650 MHz with 128 Mb, there have
been very few problems. With this one, whenever any large file
operation takes place (large file transfer, IFS with a large folder,
or IFS moving a large file) the function seems to go into la la land.
Other PC tasks run, unless using Explorer on the large IFS and then
only new starts are prevented. If you start anything that is CA/400 it
just goes into the eternal wait also. The tasks can only be canceled
by the three finger salute (<CTRL><ALT><DEL>) but I can sometimes do a
Shutdown/Restart, other times it takes a cold boot. I can run the
exact same function on the slower systems via *.TTO or drag and drop
with seldom ever a problem, even using the same PC names and cables.
I've tried un-installing CA/400 and re-installing with a complete
erase of the folder and re-create of the configuration files.

Thanks to anyone that already has the answer, otherwise I will spend
the hours on the phone to Support Line.

Roger Vicker, CCP

BTW the keywords I used for the archive and IBM searches were:
freeze
lockup
stall
time-out
CA400
CA/400
