I am also interested in hearing your thoughts on this question.

I decided against an integrated Netfinity server because:

a. Didn't like the idea of using 400 cpu cycles to perform netfinity server
file I/O requirements.
b. Stand-alone file server is a little faster than integrated (AS/400
performance guide).
c. PC disks cost less than 400 disks.
d. Stand-alone server can support more attached devices (print, fax,
rewritable CDs, etc.)
e. Stand-alone servers offers multiple cpu options (multiple clock speeds,
etc.).

Now, I am reconsidering an integrated server because:

a. I have an NT application that needs to communicate with an AS/400
application. I think an integrated server would provide faster socket I/O
than a LAN attached Netfinity server.
b. The NT application needs access to files on the 400 file system (IFS).
c. Simpler backup & restore operations.
