WRKDBF new version V10.10.03 is now available for download! -- MIDRANGE-L

A new release of the "freeware" WRKDBF is now available for download at the
WRKDBF web site www.wrkdbf.com <http://www.wrkdbf.com> .  Most of the
changes made for this release are a direct result of comments and ideas from
people who have installed WRKDBF from the web site.  I wish to thank
everyone for their input and comments, and for the overwhelmingly positive
response to WRKDBF!
The following are some of the highlights of this major release:
*       The File Name, Library Name, and Member Name fields on the main
WRKDBF panel are now input capable.  This allows you to start working with a
different file or member without having to first return to the command line.

*       A new command key "F22=Hide/Show RRN" has been added to the main
WRKDBF screen.  This will display the Relative Record Number to the left of
the actual data fields.  The F22 command key acts as a toggle that will
alternately Hide and Show the RRN.

*       WRKDBF now allows you to print out a formatted File and Field
Descriptions listing that can be used for documenting the database file.
This function is available from two different places in WRKDBF:

1.      On the "Select a Database Field" panel, enter a "P" (Print FFD
Listing) in the subfile select field next to a database file name.
2.      Press "F21=Print FFD" while you are in the "F14=Fields" panel.

*       The "Find:", "RRN:", "Window:", and "Scan Limit:" fields on the main
WRKDBF panel have been removed and replaced by a single input-capable
command line.  This command line operates much like the command line in SEU,
WRKSPLF, etc.  This has been done to open up some panel "real estate" and
also to add several new functions without having to create separate
input-capable fields.

        The following commands (and abbreviations) are available on the new
command line:

        TOP             positions you to the TOP of the file
        T                       "
        BOTTOM          positions you to the BOTTOM of the file
        B                       "
        CHANGE ACCESS   switches between *ARRIVAL and *INDEXED access
        C ACCESS                "
        RRN 12500               positions you to this relative record number
(RRN mode only)
        R 12500         "
        SCAN 1000               changes your scan limit to this number
        S 1000          "
        FIND CITY               finds the next occurrence of the word CITY
        F CITY          "
        CITY   (F16)    "
        FIND 'MAIN ST'  finds the next occurrence of the phrase 'MAIN ST'
                                (note: quotes are required if your find
string has embedded blanks)
        F 'MAIN ST'     "
        'MAIN ST'  (F16)        "
        F16                     finds the next occurrence of the previous
find string
        F9                      retrieves the previous command
        WINDOW 100      moves the display to show data beginning at column
100
        W 100           "

*       A new FLDSEQ keyword has been added to the WRKDBF command to allow
you to specify (or select from a list) a saved Field Sequence Name to be
used for this WRKDBF session.  This greatly simplifies the effort needed to
bring up a saved field sequence that you want to use over and over.  For
example:

        WRKDBF  NTLMAS2  FLDSEQ(fldseqnam)
        WRKDBF  NTLMAS2  FLDSEQ(*SELECT)

*       In the F4=Keys screen ("Enter Keys for DB Positioning"), pressing F9
will retrieve the previous Keys that were entered in the last time you used
this screen.

*       In the "Select a Database File" panel, pressing F17 will show the
Key Fields (in pink) of the files.  This should help make it easier to
determine which access path you wish to work with. 

*       The main WRKDBF panel will no longer allow you to "window right"
beyond the right-most data in the file.

*       In the F4=Keys screen, you can specify that the keys you are
positioning to are to be "restrictor" (read equal) keys instead.  Only
records having matching keys will be displayed.  There is a field at the top
of the screen where you enter in the number of keys that should be treated
as "restrictors".  (This field defaults to Zero which denotes normal key
positioning)  Column headings for "restrictors" keys are shown as
reverse-image pink.

*       In the F14=Field screen, you can do a "find" by Field Name (exact
match) or by Field Text (contains) when F16 is pressed.  This takes you
quickly to the matching Field without having to roll through lots of fields
to get to the field you're interested in.

*       A new command WRKDBFUNDL has been created that allows you to
"undelete" every deleted record in a file.  Accidents do happen!

*       Floating Point fields are now supported by WRKDBF (RISC version
only).
