It depends. How much traffic is on the external Ethernet LAN? If it is
lightly loaded it will be faster than the internal connection. Remember the
internal connection is only used for TCP/IP between the Integrated Netfinity
Server and the AS400 not access to DASD or other resources. In a heavily
loaded LAN, token ring will out perform Ethernet. I believe the token ring
is a 32Mbit not a 16Mbit.

So I expect the Integrated Netfinity Server to be faster than the external
NT server for communication to the AS400. Its processor gets to share IOP
processors with the AS400 and does not have to do all the work as in the PC
based server.

Subject: Integrated Netfinity Server

This is a performance question. My AS/400 application communicates with a
Windows NT Server via sockets. Lots of data is passed between the two
programs, so performance is important. In most cases, LANs are a
performance bottleneck.

Would higher data throughput occur with an Integrated Netfinity Server vs.
an external, 100 megabit Ethernet-attached server? Would the internal bus
be faster than an external LAN?

Following is a quote copied from the AS/400 Information Center:

"The connection between AS/400 and the Integrated Netfinity Server uses an
internal (or virtual) LAN. Both systems perceive that they are using TCP/IP
to communicate over a token-ring network. "

Does this mean that communication between the AS/400 and the Integrated
Netfinity Server is 16 megabit token-ring? Or is it faster?
