Hi Mike ! Yep you can do it , be careful and do a full buck up before, just in case, do an IPL in manual 01 B M to get DST type the password qsecofr x 2 take the option Work with disks units then Work with ASP configuration then Remove disks units from the configuration no probs , i'll pass all the data to the rest of the ASP,yep it takes a while everything in life does .It depends on their threshold (% of the disk being used )and model of 9337...240? 420?.... give it 4 hours + or - if they are at 50%.Remember to wait for the confirmation screen................. The other thing will be when ,whats it called ?... , ibm upgrades the 510 to the 720, cause I don't know of any 710,take into account that if they take the LS ,disk 0,from the 510 and install it into the 720 an error will come up basically saying that the disk must be formatted in this machine nothing wrong with it (hardware) but the performance won't be the top. Best of luck !! OH my God !, should I be explaining all this ? -----Original Message----- From: Mike Cunningham [mailto:MCUNNING@pct.edu] Sent: Thursday, June 08, 2000 9:34 PM To: MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com Subject: Removing a 9337 disk array under V4R4 We are getting ready to remove two 9337 disk arrays from our 510 before we upgrade to a 710. We have never done this operation before and would like a little feedback. We have the documented steps from the manual that tells us how to do it (i.e. full backup, boot into Manual and start DST, removed the drive, etc) and our IBM Maint rep tells us it should take about 4 hours per array. Before we jump off the ledge I would like to know if anyone out there has done this and are there any hidden gotcha's that I should be aware of. We are also courious if we will be able to remove both at once or will we need to do one, wait 4 hours, and then do the second one.
