Mike, I tried using mapinc where a subfield has the # character,
and I had no trouble using the name with p instead of #:

#pragma mapinc ("rec","BMORRIS/#JUNKF(REC)","input","d",,"")
REC_i_t rec;
rec.PARTp = 10;

Ah, I think I can guess what your problem is.  If I do: rec.x = 10;
I get a message saying "x must be a member of the struct or union".

If I do x = 10; I get a message saying "identifier x must be declared
before it is used".

You have to declare a variable of the type of the struct that gets
defined, and then you have to specify the names like this: ds.subfield
