Interesting that the magic number turns out to be 10...

Way back in 1997/8 I ran the original Volano bench marks on the AS/400 (it
was running the beta version of the native Java, as opposed to the original
version of Java for OS/400 which was an emulator) and documented them on the
News/400 website in the Java forum. At that time, the AS/400 could only
manage *10* messages per second vs. 7500 or so using WinNT.

But at least the AS/400 has managed to improve so much.
