I wouldn't know -- I don't have the service manuals.  I have
personally only seen one 6606 drive with "stiction", and it worked for
it (repeatedly until the drive was replaced).  One of the forums is
where I learned stiction was a known problem with a certain age of
6606's.

I've seen it more commonly with PC drives, where I have been known to
use the technique.  One time in particular was fun -- I had a plumber
friend come to my house to fix a low-pressure situation in one faucet.
All he did was repeatedly tap on the faucet to loosen some sediment
buildup in the stem (OK, he also removed the screen to let the
sediment out).

The very next day he called me because when he powered on his PC, it
made a squealing noise.  I had him tap on his computer, and the drive
started spinning.  He couldn't believe the timing ...
