Without changing the DDS?  Why?  Or is the real issue that you're trying to
avoid level checks?

As strange as it sounds, you can use SQL to change a databases' fields'
column headings.  It's been several months since I've seen this at another
shop, but I've seen it done.  I am fairly certain you avoid level checks
with this method.
