It captures what you see when use Action Option 8 on the WRKLNK or the STAT api. You can run a capture anytime you want(most people schedule it once a week or month). It captures the Directory path, The name of the object, size, etc. in a file. You can do comparisions from capture date to capture date to see what changed. If the Object name has a period in it(ie XXXXXX.YYY, or MYPGM.EXE) It puts the .EXE (or whatever extension) in a separate field.
