Years ago when I applied to a small consulting company, they asked me to come in on a Saturday and take a programming test. It was not a list of questions like when I took the certification, but they asked me to code from scratch a one screen simple file inquiry. Enter a customer number, bring up customer info. There were 6 or 7 taking the test that day. The man who would eventually become my project manager was there supposedly working on his current project. It didn't dawn on me until later that he was staying at the printer a lot. When one of us printed out a compile listing, he would take it off the printer and lay aside. Of course, this gave him a good view of everyone's code while doing so. Later I had to demo my program for the branch manager to show him it worked. Even though it had a couple of bugs still, they made me an offer right then. I guess they decided they got a good idea of what I was capable of. Valene M.
