Were all 4 jobs actually processing the request, can be seen by looking at the job log. My guess is that only 1 was actually processing your request. These jobs are prestarted jobs and they have parameters such that when the number available reaches a threshold value then they start a certain number of new jobs. It could be that your request caused the available threshold to be reached and the number of new jobs to be started was set to 3, which I believe is the default. You can see these parameters in the subsystem description under Prestart job entries. You can sometimes help ODBC performance by adjusting these parameters.
