Actually several messages can be generated from this little cable.
Check out the following:
CPI0963 80 System on auxiliary power.
CPI0964 80 Weak battery condition exists.
CPI097A 60 System power restored at &1.
CPI0973 80 Weak battery condition no longer exists.
CPI0974 80 UPS has been bypassed.
CPI0975 80 UPS no longer bypassed.
CPP3502 0 UPS reported a battery low condition
CPP3503 0 Uninterruptible Power System reported a bypass active
CPP3504 0 UPS battery low condition turned off
CPP3505 0 UPS reported bypass no longer active
CPF1816 80 System utility power failed at &1.
CPF1817 60 System utility power restored at &1.
CPI0961 80 Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) no longer attached.
CPI0962 80 Uninterruptible power supply (UPS) now attached.

A DSPLOG with the option MSGID() should help you.

I've tested our power supply many times. You should see the people
running from terror as I throw the 3 pole breaker in the computer
room during the middle of the day. Especially after I mentioned,
'Gee, I'm glad we used your security card to enter.' It's a hoot!
I am waiting for the first induhvidual to try the breaker on the
wrong side of the UPS.

We do have paging software monitor the message queue specified in
system value QUPSMSGQ.

The system as 2 sysvals QUPSDLYTIM and QUPSMSGQ. The ups cable is simply
a cable that says open or closed (NO ac to UPS or YES ac to UPS). Its up
to you to set the QUPSDLYTIM sysval correctly and if you want handle the
system yourself then you need to monitor the msgq in QUPSMSGQ with your
own pgm. The system has no idea that the UPS is about to die except
through the time set in QUPSDLYTIM

        Subject: UPS QUESTION

friday the power line to our ups was unplugged. Our help desk say they saw
no
messages in qsysopr about. We found out when the as400 started powering
itself down. What a scramble a the end of friday. When ipled the qsysopr
msg
q was cleared out.

I looked in the log the only entry i saw was

System utility power failed at 000512151401. 15:14:00

then these

 Machine ineligible condition threshold reached.
Ineligible condition threshold reached for pool 02. 15:34:00

then the end

shouldn't there be a entry about ups time out or something?

thank you
jeff g.
