This solution can't be used in every case, but if you can replace your report by results of SQL query you can use ODBC or Client Access' data transfer to get it. You change data transfer to SQL view and write your query. Then you can transfer data to text file or Excel where you can process it with a macro. There is one hundred ways to get data though ODBC: Delphi programs, Perl scripts, HTML pages using ADO etc. Once you have basic script you change SQL statement in a few minutes. This works much slower than running query on AS/400, but I think user can wait 2 or 3 minutes for a report - it is still quicker than asking operator to print it. I have a question to everyone: How can I programatically access spool file text not copying it to physical file? Is there a way to do it from a Perl script running on a PC? They do not want to have to bring up a Client Access session and log on to run these reports. I have started playing with FTP 's Quote RCMD and have had mixed results. I am able to get a program to run that generates the spooled file, then I get stuck on how to get it back to the PC user to be viewed on screen. I would appreciate and suggestions from the list to help me out with ideas on how to approach this.
