>From Al Macintyre, programming since 1960's on fore-runners to AS/400 but only since 1998 on AS/400 so still newbie in some areas We subscribe to News/400 Magazine & have tried various others. Some we pay for, some are free like AS/400 Magazine. There's text books on all aspects of AS/400 programming ... they advertised in News/400 & other trade publications & some of the advertising we get in the snail mail. The trade publications have heavy e-newsletters, some with programming tips ... News/400 has real ones, but watch out with e-newsletters/400 the ratio of junk ads to useful info is incredibly high. IBM still publishes a few manuals & we have them. But you need to go to IBM school, which also provides take-home reference materials. http://www.training.ibm.com/ibmedu/spotlight/as400.html The trade publications host relevant seminars & there's always COMMON. All the errror codes are on-line in the message files from which the AS/400 delivers them to your program execution ... most of them have useful 2nd level code ... but we also have the manuals that step us through what we should do if we have a particular error message & are kind of lost ... or even have a message that is not an error, like asking us to mess with printer forms. > From: jburcher@cbcolcntr.com (Jeff Burcher) > > Hi, > > for newbie programmers, where are some good places to get quick and easy > answers to perplexing problems. The road to success is always under construction. Accept that some days you are the pigeon and some days the statue. Murphy's Mom brought wrong baby home from hospital so it should be Kelly's Law. If consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, only geniuses work here. When you want it cheap - you get what you paid for. When in doubt, read the manual, assuming you can find the right one. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
