The fact that Websphere is even on the box is a testament to that. The problem now is not really with Rochester as such, rather their inability to persuade the other Labs to develop for the AS/400 first. Anyone who has ever built apps in C and C++ knows that if you build it for the 400 it will be relatively bullet proof and port easily to other platforms. If you build it for AIX or NT and port it you will have problems with _all_ the ports. The developers know this, many of the guys and gals in the Net.Data team are ex-400 developers and they know this is true. As indeed so do many of their first line managers, who are also ex-400. Further up the tree though the message doesn't get heard. It has to be NT first (or AIX if the wind is blowing that way) and no one is interested in listening to reason. PASE may be our best hope for the future. If they build for AIX and it runs on PASE we should see faster releases + better performance.
