GA19-5486-19 and AS/400 System Builder Version 4 Release 4: April 2000
Update

The AS/400 Handbook and the Builder have both been recently updated.

Please see the following:

Form Number: GA19-5486-19

Title: AS/400e System Handbook: April 2000 Update

In this twentieth edition of the AS/400e System Handbook, we provide a
comprehensive
guide to the AS/400 hardware and software that is currently marketable by
IBM
representatives. This Handbook is written for use by IBM System
Specialists, Marketing
Representatives, Business Partners, and IBM customers. It is designed for
guidance only.

Periodically the content of the Handbook is revised online to cover new
announcements
and technical changes made since the last printed copy. The most up-to-date
edition of
the Handbook is maintained online at:
http://www.redbooks.ibm.com/index.html. A PDF
file is available for downloading.

The most recent softcopy update was made in April 2000. When viewed, this
edition is
identified as GA19-5486-19C. It covers PASE, the 6490 tape unit, 7299 entry
hub and
Express Multiplexer, plus a variety of Network Station announcements made
in
March, 2000. This soft copy incorporates the changes made in the February
2000 -19B
edition, which reflected new internal disk drives, the supporting #5066 I/O
expansion tower,
plus the December 1999 -19A edition which reflected the additional
processor upgrades
to the 7xx series. In each issue miscellaneous technical announcements were
covered.

Note:

The AS/400 Handbook is now available in bound hardcopy to reflect the most
current
changes. Select the "Order Hardcopy" button from www.redbooks.ibm.com when
locating the Handbook by it's form number. You will be directed to an
ordering process
from a print-on-demand vendor, and will receive a bound printed edition of
the Handbook
in it's latest form. This process will continue with future issues to keep
the printed copy in
synch with the online information. (The reader will always have the option
to download a
PDF file for the most current information, as well).

When the Handbook is updated for major product announcements, a new suffix
will be
assigned, and ordering of the Handbook will resume through normal IBM
processes.
Thereafter, any softcopy update will be available using the process
described above.

Update

This fifth worldwide-distributed edition of the AS/400 System Builder
offers you a comprehensive
guide to the AS/400 hardware and software that has been marketed by IBM
representatives since
its announcement in 1988. A description of restrictions on communications

(or thresholds) was added in August of 1999. This information helps in an
initial sizing of
communication throughput.

The softcopy files at http://www.redbooks.ibm.com are identified as
SG24-2155-04C. The files
were updated in April 2000 to reflect the 6490 tape unit, 7299 entry hub
