Terry, I have researched this several times over the last few years and have NOT found a package to fully automate this process. I found with a TMS you must enter the volumes manually into the packages database. I am assuming your 3995 is direct attached to a 6534 or 6521 iop. We put bar codes on the stem of the platter to match the volume ID of the Optical platter and scan them and use a PC package for tracking of copies of platters that are off-site. To see when platters are full you can enter the following command and write a pgm or query over the outfile and select the volume size and space available fields and do a calculation. DSPOPT VOL(*ALL) OUTPUT(*OUTFILE) OUTFILE(BMLIB/OPTXX). If you check the various available variables on the command you can solve many Optical issues. We have a set of custom programs for this type of management and problem determination that is just queries and small CL and RPGs, this can be written by any programmer quickly to fit your current environment. We have RealVision Report Management and create quite a large number of these cartridges and it's getting to be a pain tracking them manually. There is also quite a lot of manual effort constantly checking to see which cartridges are almost full so they can be moved out of the 3995 and replaced with fresh ones. It seems like a Tape Management System would be close to what would be needed except the cartridges would never return to the scratch pool. -- Terry Grider tgrider@arkansas.net +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
