Optio Software (formerly FormsXpress), would handle this problem quite nicely
from theAS/400. No problem printing to the HP Laser (PCL-5 emulation).

I would like to print retail shelf labels (for example what you see at
Walmart next to each product showing the description, price, etc.) from our
AS/400. Some of the desired features are as follows:

1) System uses AS/400 spool control (dont want file downloads to PC
print programs);

2) Prints on HP laser printer (rules out software like TL Ashford,
which only works on Zebra type printers).

3) There are 32 labels on a page (4 across and 8 down). I would like
to design only the first label, and the software should
propogate the other labels. The data would be different on each
label, but I dont want to have to format 32 labels, each with
a dozen or so fields! I want to format only the first label!

4) Wysiwyg graphics utility to design the label.

5) No special hardware required to drive the laser printer.

Has anyone done this successfully? We currently use an old PC print program
(Worthington Data Solutions LabelRight), but it has many shortcomings. Not
the product so much as the operator intervention required for downloads.

Would Create!Print or one of those types of products work for this
application?

Any other ideas?

Thanks!
