Kirk,
You need to have the C compiler and the System Openness Includes (OS/400
Option 13) installed, in order to create SQL procedures (V4R2+).
Your example needs LANGUAGE SQL at the end of the CREATE PROCEDURE
statement. The SELECT statement needs the INTO clause, and a semicolon at
the end. The procedure will be created thru the RUNSQLSTM command.
Examples are in the SQL Programming Reference Manual, Chapter 7.

Below is a cut from a script that is gen'd by SQLSVR 7 that should create a
SQL STORED PROCEDURE.
When I try run it either in STRSQL or by RUNSQLSTM I get errors stating it
does like the SELECT token.
If I add LANGUAGE SQL before the SELECT it complains about the LANGAUGE
token.

I can't find a simple example to follow. Would someone be so kind as to fix
the statement below??? Please??

CREATE PROCEDURE SP_ACTIVITY_TYPE
(@CREATE_DATE DATE, @UPDATE_DATE DATE)
SELECT DISTINCT ACTIVITYTYPE_ID, DESCRIP, CREDITCRDINDICATOR_ID,
OVERRIDECREDITCOMPANY_ID,
OVERRIDECREDITLOCATION_ID, OVERRIDECREDITDEPARTMENT, DEBITCRDINDICATOR_ID,
OVERRIDEDEBITCOMPANY_ID, OVERRIDEDEBITLOCATION_ID, OVERRIDEDEBITDEPARTMENT,
ACCTCREDITDOLLAR, ACCTCREDITVOLUME, ACCTDEBITDOLLAR, ACCTDEBITVOLUME,
DISPLAYNAME, @CREATE_DATE, @UPDATE_DATE
FROM COPYLMS.ACTIVITYTYPE )
