One small thing that sometimes helps with backup is to not back up the
source files.  QRPGSRC, QDDSSRC usually have many, many members and although
they are small in number of records, each member is basically a separate
file that has to be logged in the backup.  It takes a longer to
backup/restore a source file with 1000 members with an average number of
records of 100 than it does to back up a physical file with 100,000 records
in 1 member.
