Think of the arrival/departure screens in airports.  Do you 
really want to send some lackey around to sign on to all of them?

I do like your backup example.  When you drop QINTER, pop up the screen.

You can let a program initiate (INVITE) a connection to one (or max 256) 
devices that ARE NOT CONNECTED TO A SBS. 

All devices are normally connected.
I have never used or found any use for this facility. Maybe during backup you 
can write 'System will be down untill hh:mm?
