RE: Logical Files vs. Physical Keys

The reason we only access thru logical files is if a logical file gets
damaged (which did occur when we were on V2R3) then we delete it and
recreate it. If a physical file gets damaged then the chance for data loss
is great. An IBMer had told us at that time, it could be fixed now, that a
program accessing the file,either IBM or User written, could corrupt the
object. an IBMer recommended this way and we have not had any problems. IMHO

When we started out on the AS400 11 years ago, a decision was made to always
use
logical files and never use physical keys (index) on all of our files.  At
this
point, this is being reevaluated and no one seems to remember why physical
keys
were seen as a bad thing.

Anyone able to give a short synopsis of the tradeoffs between the two?  Any
downsides to using physical keys or indexes?
