Hi Dan -

>Saving bandwidth is a great idea. Let's stop the spam threads, PLEASE.
>Send emails using only TEXT, not MIME, not HTML, only TEXT. When you
reply,
>erase the seven line "This is the Midrange System Mailing List!" trailer
>that gets tacked on to every message; I love the multi-layered responses,
>but I hate seeing & having to wade through 20 of those 7-line trailers.

Let me add to that ... NO ATTACHMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, I am SHOUTING!!!!!!!!!!! There have been a lot of attachements lately.
For those of us who use the digest mode, this gives us a digest which may be
60% or more of hex characters for those attachments.

So let me repeat for anyone who didn't hear me the first time ...
NO ATTACHMENTS!!!!!!!!!!!! ATTACHMENTS ... EMAIL LIST ... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And while I'm ranting, if someone offers to send some kind of file to a
person by private email (which is the way it should be done) other people
who also want a copy should make that request via private email.

And another thing, if someone asks a simple question, see if someone else
has answered it before sending an answer yourself. Because of lag time and
because of the use of digests, it is impossible to totally eliminate
duplicate answers, but at least look through what has hit your inbox first.

And finally, NO ATTACHMENTS TO THE LIST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

>Saving bandwidth means that you will NOT reply to this paragraph saying
>"Right on, Dan!" ;-) , but only if you have something to add or modify to
>the paragraph. I would also suggest that emails that express only "Thanks
>for that great solution, Tom!" (or somesuch) be done privately.

Right on, Dan! <G>

Seriously, let me disagree slightly with your last sentence. I think that a
SHORT public thank you from the original requester can be appropriate if an
individual put forth some special effort or came up with a solution to a
difficult problem. If another person benefits significantly as well, that
would probably be better done privately.
