Thanks to all of you who have replied to my problem re: the above.

Just to let you know how I intend to play it from here. We are at present
rolling out Citrix, thin clients to 70 users - 35 this week, including one
of the glitchy machines and 35 next week. I'm going to play the waiting game
to see if this resolves the problem.

If not, a couple of people (George & Bill) suggested speaking to IBM about a
TCP/IP specific PTF. This appears to be my best bet.

Changing TCP and Telnet values did not solve the problem and I'm rather
loath at present to alter the IP of the 400. As for the users shutting the
Window with a big X, that was the first thing we checked.  :)

Thanks again for your suggestions, I'll keep you informed of the outcome.
