I just had a wierd error message today. I have a RPG/IV program that calls a
procedure (using a prototype), and received the following error message:
MCH0601
Message data "Space offset X'00031E00' is outside current limit for object
QPADEV0002GOODBAR"

The error reported by the program was "The call to ended in error (C G D F)."

After dumping the program, I looked at the local variables for my procedure:

Local variables for subprocedure: SHIFTRIGHT
NAME ATTRIBUTES VALUE
_QRNL_PSTR_INFIELD POINTER SSP:F61FA7DE7D02C140
_QRNL_PSTR_INLENGTH POINTER SSP:CEAE1E9F8E00DC90
INFIELD CHAR(32767) NOT ADDRESSABLE
INLENGTH PACKED(5,0) 00015. '00015F'X

then I have a "blank" variable dump length 32767 (a placeholder for the not
addressed INFIELD?).

Under which circumstances would an input variable be not addressable?

The program is callable interactively - I'm the only one who uses it at the
moment, and I only run it interactively.

Here's the prototype and procedure interface (hand typed, the columns won't
line up)

PROTOTYPE
d Shiftright pr 32767a varying
d InField 32767a options(*varsize) const
d InLength 5p 0 const

PROCEDURE INTERFACE

d InField 32767a options(*varsize) const
d InLength 5p 0 const
...

TIA!
