I have a client that has several Zebra label printers doing barcode. Currently they all attach via parallel ports on the back of dumb tubes. These dumb tubes use 5224 emulation. Barcodes are being created in a *M36 machine on a V4R4 720. These all work fine, just like the they should. The RPG code has quoted strings for the control codes. Their printer wants to see a '5E'x as the control char. In the *M36 that char looks like upside-down sideways "L". Somewhere from the RPG code to the printer that gets turned into a caret "^" which is what the printer needs as it control char. Now we want to print to a network attached PC with a Zebra printer on a local LPT port. To do this from a *M36 the best way for printer control is to map the *M36 device to an OS/400 outq, but this is causing a problem. The '5E'x is being translated to a '5F'x. This of course causes the printer to print all the quoted control strings instead of acting on those codes. When I look the spoolfile on the OS/400 outq it has the upside-down sideways "L" '5F'x. This type of thing is a known problem when mapping to a OS/400 outq from a *M36 printer. What I want to do is to use the WSCST function to remap the '5F'x to the '5E'x. I did this a llllloooooonnnnnngggggg time ago for a displaystation issue, but never a char sub on a printer. I have looked at the WSCST man think I know what I want to do, but would like to here from anyone who has done this recently.
